CARLOS DAVID

Carlos David is a director, photographer, and multimedia artist with a focus on diversity and inclusion. He explores the complex relationship between self-perception and external perception through his art projects. David’s expertise ranges from fine art to commercial photography. He has exhibited his work in galleries in New York and internationally, including in England, Slovenia, Croatia, and Mexico. His project PERSONAE has earned him the prestigious Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Creative Engagement and Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone Arts Engagement grants. Additionally, he has been shortlisted for the Aesthetica Magazine Art Prize.
Personae explores how the human spirit, as expressed through dreams, fantasy, and imagination, can endure and transcend to provide perspective on lived experiences.
David’s process invites participants to transform into their alter ego or a character of their choice, enabling freedom of expression and experimentation. And yet, in doing so, the subjects can explore and reveal more profound and hidden parts of themselves.
For the second installment, David collaborated with a diverse group connected through the overarching theme of conflict and trauma. Working with stigmatized and marginalized groups, David aims to open a new path for dialog between the spectator and the subject, an opportunity for the participants to express and explore, and bring attention to critical social issues through the generation of fictionalized content.
